GoodWeave Certified: What it Means & Why We Care

Throughout our website, you may see that all of our rugs are “GoodWeave Certified.” But what does that mean, exactly? And why does it matter?

Well, GoodWeave is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending child labor. Founded by Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi in 1994, GoodWeave has become a leader in bringing visibility to global supply chains, giving voices to marginalized workers (including children), and providing assurance that products are free of child labor — so that kids can be kids again.

In fact, from 1995 to 2021, GoodWeave has helped ensure freedom for 8,091 children, provided educational opportunities for 44,396 children, and certified more than 29 million products as child-labor-free!

And their impact doesn’t stop there. Throughout the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, GoodWeave has also raised money and donated to tons of children and families through the COVID-19 Child and Worker Protection fund. In partnership with other companies and suppliers, they have:

Provided food aid to more than 114,000 workers and family members.

Secured e-learning for more than 11,000 children.

Provided hygiene aid, including PPE to over 105,000 workers and family members.

Reached 93,363 workers in supply chains in the last year.

It’s evident that GoodWeave continues to change lives for the better, and we are proud to support their mission now and always. We stand firmly with GoodWeave’s core values and beliefs, and have ensured that FabHabitat is not only a company that prohibits child labor, but works to eliminate it altogether.

Since all of our products are GoodWeave certified, that means that we’ve met the following criteria:

No child labor is allowed.

No forced or bonded labor is allowed

Workplace conditions are documented and verifiable

We also work hard to ensure our employees are provided with fair working conditions, our health and safety regulations are upheld, no discrimination is practiced, and much more.

Because we believe our rugs should be good for the home and good for the community — and that starts from the heart!

So the next time you’re browsing our site and see that GoodWeave certification symbol, we hope that it reminds you not only of the commitment we’ve made as a company — but also of the impact you’re making by choosing to put a FabHabitat rug in your home.
